3. Why Can't I Fix Myself?

Human beings are remarkably good at fixing things.

We build skyscrapers.

Perform heart surgery.

Send spacecraft into orbit.

But there's one thing humanity hasn't figured out how to repair:

the human heart.

We can educate people and educated people can still become greedy.

We can become wealthy and wealthy people can still be miserable.

We can promise ourselves, “I'll never do that again,” and somehow find ourselves doing it again.

Imagine discovering mold inside the walls of your house.

Painting the wall might make it look better.

But the mold remains.

Eventually it comes through again.

Jesus isn't interested only in repainting the outside of our lives.

He wants to deal with what's underneath.
