5. Why Doesn't God Just Ignore Sin?

People sometimes ask, “If God loves us, why doesn't He just forgive everything and forget about sin?”

Because love without justice isn't really love.

Imagine someone seriously hurting someone you love.

Then imagine the judge saying:

“I'm a loving person, so I'm going to pretend nothing happened.”

You wouldn't call that loving.

You'd call it unjust.

We want God to care about evil when someone hurts us.

The uncomfortable part is realizing God must also care about the evil within us.

God is perfectly loving and perfectly just.

So how can God punish sin while rescuing sinners?

That's where the cross becomes extraordinary.
