“The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.” John 1:9
Every December, our calendars fill up quickly with decorating parties, shopping lists, cookie exchanges, and Christmas programs. The lights twinkle, the music plays, and the busyness propels us at warp speed through the end of the year. We gather, we give, we prepare, and we entertain. Yet in the midst of the hustle and bustle, if we’re not careful, we can miss the very reason we celebrate at all, the reason for the Season, the gift of Christmas, JESUS, the True Light of the world.
John’s Gospel reminds us that Jesus is not just another light among many; He is the True Light that came to bring hope to a dark world. The brilliance of Christmas isn’t found in the sparkle of ornaments, the glow of candles, or the strings of lights; it’s found in the radiance of Christ, who entered our broken world to bring salvation, peace, and joy.
When we allow the Season’s expectations to overshadow the true reason we celebrate, we can find ourselves weary and empty instead of full and bright with hope and anticipation. But when we pause to seek Jesus, through prayer, worship, Scripture, and acts of love, our hearts begin to glow with His light. His presence transforms our celebrations into sacred moments. His peace steadies us when the world feels hurried. His love reminds us that the greatest gift is not found under a tree wrapped in boxes and trimmed with ribbon, but in the One who was born in a humble setting and would be the very light that would redeem the world!
This Christmas, be intentional. As you give gifts, remember the Gift Giver. As you prepare your home, prepare your heart. As you gather with others, invite the presence of Christ to be at the center.
Let the True Light of Jesus shine through your words, your worship, and your witness. Because when the light of Christ shines in you, it has the power to illuminate every room, every relationship, and every heart you encounter.
Jesus, thank You for being the True Light that shines in our darkness. In the midst of the Christmas season, help me to slow down and seek You above all else. Let Your light fill my heart and overflow into my home, my family, and my community. May this Christmas be a reflection of Your love and Your glory. In the mighty name of the True Light of the World, Jesus! Amen!
